In the bitter cold winter of 1685, a group of explorers arrived at the bank of a wild lake. The explorers had to go over to the other side. None of  them could swim.
The banks were wide apart so they could not go across and there were 
no trees nearby that they could cut to make boats. Yet they reached the 
other side quite easily. How?
